What is TMJ?
The term TMJ gets thrown around a lot but what does it actually mean? TMJ refers to the Temporomandibular Joint, however, most people use the term to refer to the symptoms related to TMD or Temporomandibular Dysfunction. Common symptoms are tension and migraine headaches, neck and shoulder tension, and tooth sensitivity. Whatever you call it, it’s not any fun and most people who experience it would like to find a solution.
If you think you suffer from TMD, please fill out the symptoms sheet on this page.
Disclusion Time Reduction
In our office we offer a procedure call Disclusion Time Reduction, which is an appliance-free approach to treating TMJ. The primary goal of DTR is to relieve pain and prevent future problems with your teeth.
We also offer custom night guards for patients. Oftentimes, this is the right treatment because a properly fitting night guard not only can open the airway to get better quality air and deeper sleep but also prevent muscular pain and protect the teeth as well as the bone and gums holding them in! Not all night guards are created equal and Dr. Kinkade had gone through extensive training to provide high quality, and properly adjusted night guards to relieve pain and keep your teeth and gums healthy for the long haul!
